Mummification Steps
First the body is taken to the 'ibu' to be washed in palm wine and rinse with water from Nile
One of the embalmers cuts down the left of the body and removes many vital organs. The liver, lungs, stomachs and intestines are removed. The heart is left for the afterlife while the brain is pulled out the nose and mushed.
The body is then stuffed with natron to absorb up all moisture.
After 40 days the body is rinsed again is water from the Nile.
The vital organs are then placed into Canopic jars.
First the head is wrapped in linen.
Then the fingers and toes are wrapped.
Then the arms and legs are wrapped.
Amulets are placed in between the wrapping to protect the mummy through the afterlife.
The Priests read out spells to ward away evil demons in the afterlife.
The arm and legs are now tied together and a papyrus scroll is placed in between.
Linen strips are wrapped around the body.
The bandages are painted in resin to help glue the strips together.
The whole body is then wrapped in a large piece of linen reaching from head to toe.
The body is then placed into coffin and is ready for the afterlife.
